KETAMINE THERAPY FAQ
NORTH TEXAS

Am I a right candidate for infusion?

Neuroglow Clinic conducts a thorough health assessment on each patient before deciding if ketamine therapy is appropriate for you. Most patients will qualify for therapy but that will be determined after your free consultation is completed. Patients with psychosis, history of seizures, schizophrenia and uncontrolled blood pressure are not a candidate for ketamine therapy.

Ketamine is an excellent option for patients suffering from treatment resistant depression and suicidal ideations. Other conditions that can benefit from ketamine include anxiety, post partum depression, PTSD, OCD, bipolar disorder, chronic pain, post partum depression, treatment resistant migraines and nerve pain.

The research is very strong for the effectiveness of ketamine infusions for the treatment of mood disorders and mental health. However, Ketamine is still considered “off label” use for these conditions.

How quickly will I notice results after and infusion?

Every patient responds differently to ketamine therapy. Some patients start to notice a change in their mood or condition hours after their infusion. Typically, noticeable changes can be experienced after a series of infusions with most patients noticing significant results after the 2nd or 3rd Infusion. Research has shown that around 70% of patients experience relief of depressive symptoms after ketamine infusions.

What does the infusion feel like and what is the process?

Ketamine is administered via a very small IV catheter placed in your hand or arm. The infusion typically takes 40-45 minutes to complete. During this time your vital signs will be continuously monitored and we will make sure you are completely at ease. Every patient experiences the infusions differently and most find it the entire process to be seamless and comforting.

As ketamine is working on your body and brain, patients may experience different sensations. Some common sensations include a feeling of lightness or floating, decreased awareness of your surrounding or body, numbness or tingling, a positive shift in psychology and emotions.

Dizziness and nausea may occur in a minority of people and is easily treated. The uncomfortable “dissociative anesthetic” effect typically does not occur at the low doses of ketamine that will be administered to you. If you experience this side effect, your dosing can easily be adjusted and a relaxing medication can be administered.

Most patients find the entire experience to be tranquil, relaxing and pleasant. Our clinic has a calming spa like environment which will assist in making you feel as comfortable as possible during your infusion. Every patient gets their own private infusion room which is equipped with comfortable electric recliners, mood lighting, noise canceling headphones and aromatherapy

What is the usual treatment schedule?

Research suggests that 6 infusions over a period of 2 weeks produces the best overall results and maximizes the beneficial effect of ketamine for mood disorders. We recommend all patients maintain this protocol. However, we understand scheduling conflicts may arise and we can make some adjustments to accommodate your schedule.

“Booster” Infusions maybe needed after the initial series of ketamine infusions are completed. We will keep track of your progress via the osmind app which enables us to predict when a Booster infusion is needed.

Chronic Pain protocols differ from mood disorder protocols. We recommend a series of 4 infusions over a period of 4 days. Majority of our patients experience a 50% reduction in their pain symptoms after this protocol.

Will I Fall Asleep during my Infusion?

We deliver a gentle low dose infusion of ketamine. Patients typically do not fall asleep and are awake during the entire process. We provide noise cancelling headphones for your convenience to assist in a comfortable experience.
