What is Ketamine Therapy?

Ketamine is a safe and effective drug that has been utilized in a variety of medical settings for the last 50 years. It has been placed in the World Health Organizations list of Essential Medicines because of its effectiveness and safety profile. Ketamine is widely used as an anesthetics and sedative in both the perioperative and emergency room setting and is also widely used in the pediatric population to treat pain. Ketamine is also the only legal psychedelic drug used in the medical setting in the United States. We believe Psychedelic Medicine holds great potential for mental health and we are proud to offer this cutting edge treatment modality.

Over the last 20 years, there has been exponential growth in research surrounding the use of low dose ketamine as an adjunct to treat the symptoms of depression and other mood disorders. Time magazine published an article in 2012 and which named ketamine as “arguably the most important discovery in half a century” in relation to its efficacy in treating the symptoms of treatment resistant depression and mood disorders.

Numerous studies are concluding that Ketamine has remarkable properties in alleviating the myriad of symptoms caused by depression and a host of other mood disorders. A unique property of ketamine is that it works on synaptogenic neuroplastic repair working on actual neural pathways in the brain. This novel property, along with its unique action on the glutamate pathway is allowing for a truly ground breaking therapy.

Depression

Ketamine possesses an excellent safety and side effect profile and many patients begin experiencing relief of depressive symptoms hours after their infusion is completed. In fact, 70% of patients respond favorably after completing the recommended series of six infusions. Recent studies have revealed that ketamine mediated synaptic plasticity changes appear to occur within a matter of hours after administrating ketamine. What that means is Ketamine is helping to restore and strengthen synaptic connections within your brain by generating pathways that allow for positive thoughts to reform in the brain. Ketamine also possesses unique psychedelic properties which allows for restructuring and reorganizing of negative and destructive thought patterns. This help can pave the way for a reset and renewed outlook on the world.

Post Partum Depression

Ketamine has been shown to reduce the effects of Post Partum Depression (PPD). Because Ketamine has rapid onset, new mothers can find relief within hours rather than waiting weeks to figure out the appropriate dose of oral anti depressants.

PTSD

Ketamine has been helpful in treating the symptoms of PTSD because it works on inhibiting glutamate, which is thought to play a key role in stress response. Research is concluding that Ketamine can play an important role in mitigating and reducing the symptoms of PTSD.

Anxiety

There is growing evidence that ketamine can be beneficial in regards to various anxiety disorders which include social anxiety disorder and general anxiety disorder. Current treatment for anxiety disorders include a host of prescription medications which can not only can be physically addictive, but can also leave up to 40% of patients with no relief at all.
